- A major leap for real-time communications has arrived.
- Third, successful and commercial deployment for Deutsche Telekom using dynamic, real-time nature of slice orchestration, enabling dedicated resources for enhanced customer experience.
In collaboration with Deutsche Telekom, Mavenir has helped enable the deployment of video telephony over a 5G Standalone (SA) network slice. This milestone brings a new level of performance and reliability to one of the world’s most widely used video calling applications—and signals a turning point for 5G innovation.
This launch marks the third 5G slicing use case in Germany, following deployments in mobile journalism and gaming. What began as targeted, high-performance use cases has now evolved into something far bigger: the delivery of premium, slice-based network experiences directly to everyday consumers.
With the upcoming iOS 26.4 release, FaceTime is the first application which will take full advantage of these capabilities. Users can expect more natural, responsive conversations, with fewer interruptions and consistently high-quality video—transforming video calling into a truly real-time experience, even under challenging network conditions.
Mavenir’s role in this achievement is foundational. Its cloud-native 5G Standalone core enables the end-to-end network slicing and L4S (Low Latency, Low Loss, Scalable Throughput) integration required to make this possible. By bridging intelligence between the RAN and application layers, Mavenir is helping operators deliver not just connectivity, but assured performance tailored to specific services.
This milestone is about more than a single application. It reflects a broader shift toward application-aware networks that can guarantee performance, unlock new service models, and redefine user expectations. As slicing and L4S expand into new domains—from immersive media to enterprise collaboration—the potential for innovation continues to grow.
With this deployment, Mavenir, Deutsche Telekom, and Apple have demonstrated what 5G was always meant to deliver: fast, intelligent connectivity built for real-time experiences. And this is only the beginning.
