Mavenir’s Serving Gateway (SGW) is 3GPP compliant Evolved Packet Core (EPC) network element, which manages user-plane mobility while functioning as the termination point of the packet data network interface towards EUTRAN.
With the rapid adoption of 4G LTE by mobile operators, the EPC is deployed widely and carrying significant volume of wireless internet traffic from 4G LTE devices.

To execute this, Mavenir’s SGW is architected with highly optimized packet processing capabilities in handling its functions such as user plane mobility anchoring, packet routing and forwarding.
As a network edge element, The SGW provides downlink packet buffering as part of mobility state management procedures to assist the eNodeB during inter-eNodeB handover (data forwarding). It also provides mobility anchoring for inter-3GPP mobility (terminating S4 and relaying the traffic between 2G/3G system and PDN GW). SGW essentially handles a lot of bearer data and signaling for GTP-Control. Mavenir's SGW has a distributed architecture that splits control and bearer planes, offering exceptional flexibility and scalability to handle high rates of such signaling and high PPS (packets per second). The split architecture approach provides MNO’s the deployment flexibility to install geographically dispersed bearer plane and localize the bearer traffic with a centralized control plane.
The virtualized SGW, based on mOne® software platform, can easily be deployed in the operator’s cloud-based infrastructure.
