What are Mobile Cloud Services?

Mobile operators can extend the industry-wide cloud computing concepts to build their own converged core network (or Mobile Cloud) and deliver a set of Mobile Cloud Services. 

The concept is for the mobile operator to build a common pool of service enablers or “resources” which can be used across multiple services offered to the subscribers.  For example delivering a voice call over Wi-Fi or offering a new video chat service, can use the same set of telephony resources in the mobile cloud.

With their Mobile Cloud, operators can:

  • Offer new real-time communication services such as instant messaging, file sharing and video communication applications while preserving voice and SMS service revenues over LTE devices.
  • Leverage their key advantage of ownership of the network, the subscriber, the mobile number and the billing relationship to offer a compelling service experience unparalleled by over the top (OTT) players.
  • Collaborate with OTT players by creating a platform for new application development with web APIs for new third party applications (like Android apps) and user experiences (Example – Interactive IM and voice chat while playing games i.e. Angry Birds).
