IP SMSC
IP SMSC is a highly scalable and modular solution that enables SMS services and drastically reduces the costs to deliver high volume SMS. Mavenir has re-defined the traditional SMSC by adopting principles of IMS to handle SMS messages with a layered policy driven architecture. The key functional modules include an intelligent router for first delivery attempt (SMS FDA), backhaul over SIP transport, application modules for Value Added Services and the Messaging Gateway for external connectivity, all driven by a centralized HSS/SPS dB for personalized service profiles.
Universal Message Router (UMR):
The Universal Message Router provides intelligent, optimized routing and first delivery attempt (FDA) to immediately deliver traffic for majority of the subscribers. The router provides cost savings by eliminating network bottlenecks and inherently adding SMS capacity without purchasing expensive legacy SMSC and MMSC upgrades. Flexible interfaces to HLR, HSS, Mavenir SPS, ENUM, LDAP make it a powerful platform for operators to optimize their messaging traffic routing for any type of environment, including prepaid and mobile number portability. Features such as HLR caching also increase network resiliency and availability while allowing operators to cope with mass market applications such as voting and information delivery. In the IMS framework, the router will offload SMS over SIP to offload SS7 backhaul networks.
Messaging Services and Storage:
Messaging Services and Storage helps operators further monetize SMS by either increasing revenue generating traffic or by increasing brand loyalty. Personalized services such as message forwarding, copying to SMS or Email, group messaging, auto reply and blacklist/white list provide richness control to end users. Network features such as spam filtering, throttling and global black/whitelist provides security for the mobile operator and increases the quality of services. Message Store performs the traditional store and forward functionality for deferred delivery of messages and can offer persistent storage of all incoming and outgoing messages for new services such as web messaging. These services complement and work in conjunction with Mavenir's Rich Messaging Server to offer seamless services across the legacy and IMS domains.
Messaging or SMPP Gateway:
The Messaging Gateway has advanced capabilities to manage the traffic and bridge the disparity across application and content network architectures. Its content provider management features, filtering algorithm, subscriber based feature invocation and on-board routing capability provide sustained quality of service for content providers and their customers even in peak traffic situations. Coupled with IP-SM gateway application the solution handles all forms of messaging, such as SMS, MMS, IM and Email, providing dynamic adaptation for client and device agnostic messaging. All the above functional modules are deployed on Mavenir's mOne® Convergence Platform. The Mavenir IP-SMSC and all its interfaces comply with the relevant OMA, 3GPP and 3GPP2 standards to integrate into any standard mobile network environment.
Subscriber Provisioning System (SPS):
SPS is a subscriber database that stores and manages personalized services and routing policies for subscriber SMS traffic. Based on the principles of HSS, Mavenir has uniquely merged the service delivery capability of the 3GPP/2 IMS core for enhancing SMS services delivery over any mobile network. The SPS supports various interfaces including Diameter to interface with Mavenir’s UMR to process SMS traffic for Value Added Services. This product is delivered on a standard off-the-shelf server platform.
